Graffiti is an eyesore that can ruin the look of any property, and even the reputation of a business. It can also be challenging to remove, but luckily there are ways to quickly and easily get rid of it. Pressure washing is one of those methods. In this article, we share our process of how our professionals remove graffiti.

Tips On How To Remove Grafitti With Pressure Washing

1. Gather Your Equipment

Before we begin, we always ensure we have the necessary equipment ready:

  • A pressure washer with the appropriate PSI (pounds per square inch) rating for graffiti removal.
  • A high-quality graffiti remover or cleaner.
  • Safety gear, including gloves, goggles, and protective clothing.
  • A bucket, scrub brushes, and a hose with a spray nozzle.
  • Plastic sheeting or drop cloths to protect adjacent surfaces.
2. Safety Precautions

We always prioritise safety when removing graffiti. Our team wears protective gear to shield themselves from chemical splashes, debris, and high-pressure water.

3. Test An Inconspicuous Area

Before we start removing graffiti from the entire surface, we test on a small, inconspicuous section to ensure that the pressure washer’s power won’t cause damage or discolouration.

4. Apply Graffiti Remover

Using a brush or spray, we apply the graffiti remover to the affected area. If you do this yourself, we recommend you follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application and dwell time. Different graffiti removers may require varying amounts of time to penetrate the paint or ink.

5. Set Up The Pressure Washer

This is where we connect the pressure washer to the water and set it to the appropriate PSI level. Generally, a PSI of 2,000 to 3,000 works well for graffiti removal.

6. Begin Pressure Washing

We start pressure washing the graffiti-covered area, holding the nozzle at a consistent and safe distance to avoid causing damage. Generally, we work our way from the outer edges of the graffiti towards the middle.

7. Rinse Thoroughly

After removing the graffiti, we thoroughly rinse the area with clean water to remove any residual graffiti remover and paint or ink particles.

8. Repeat If Necessary

In some cases, stubborn graffiti may require multiple passes. If the graffiti persists, our technician will reapply the graffiti remover and repeat the pressure washing process.

9. Clean Up

Once done we will dispose of any waste materials and clean the surrounding area.
